Join fellow parishioners for a five-week Lenten study on Wednesdays that will begin with a simple soup supper, then we’ll learn more about the Beatitudes, which are defined as blessings. The word for blessed in Greek is makarios, evoking a meaning of being fortunate, implying a state of happiness. How then do we understand the Beatitudes, which say “…happy are those who are poor in spirit, meek or even persecuted?” In our time together we will look at the language of each Beatitude to discover what many scholars are quick to say, that the Beatitudes are in fact instructions on how to live a happy life. We’ll also study the life of St. Francis of Assisi, who was known to be so content and full of peace while taking a vow of poverty and service that he remains an inspiration to others to this day. In addition, we will touch on related music of the Bible times and creation care themes that inform our study. Please RSVP if you are able to join (look for the link in the Tuesday signup email from Grace or call the office, 757-898-3261, ext. 110).
Please RSVP here if you can join us.
