Spiritual Direction

This is by appointment only and is with Grace’s Resident Spiritual Director, Elsa Bakkum, M.Div. These hour-long appointments begin with silence and end with prayer.

Meetings are held on the property of Grace Episcopal Church. A sliding scale fee is charged; you decide what you can afford.

Spiritual direction is approached with the conviction that each person is the expert on what the Holy Spirit is doing in their lives. A space is held for honest expression, listening and exploration. The focus is on naming life’s dynamics from the perspective of spiritual and theological language. Where is God in specific life experiences?

Since Elsa has done extensive study in psychology, sometimes categories and language borrowed from that discipline is illuminative, particularly that of Family Systems Theory, Myers-Briggs Personality Inventory and Dream Work. The Enneagram is also found to be a helpful tool.

Learning together

Grace is committed to the spiritual growth of all its members, from the youngest who attend Children’s Chapel while older family members take in regular worship in the church or Parish Hall to adults with a lifetime of experience.
